Apathy

.
Yesterday I talked about the tests we receive to check if we’re serious.
.
One of the most difficult tests is that of acedia… or ‘spiritual apathy’.
.
It’s the point where we believe we have exhausted the subject we were once passionate about. We lose interest. We stop caring.
.
What we don’t realise is that a whole new world opens up on the other side of apathy. It’s the gateway to truly caring.
.
When we have to figure out why we cared in the first place, and we have to dig deep to keep that attention, that’s when we begin to realise mastery.
.
Seth Godin calls it ‘the dip’. The point where everything becomes too much, too difficult…
.
The key is in identifying whether you’re in a dip (and pushing through) or a dead end (and giving up, guilt-free).
.
(I will be talking more about this in “The Path Laid Bare” on Patreon tomorrow)
